Many different athletes, a variety of nations and different careers – with the presentation of the S7 Marathon field of participants we want to take a look behind the scenes with their personal stories.
Christian Steinhammer
Christian was one of the reasons that the idea for the S7Marathon was developed in the first place. In discussions with our chairman Thomas KREJCI, Christian Steinhammer explained the problems of the local and European top athletes to find races in which the Olympic limit can be run. We are deeply sorry that Christian cannot now attack the Tokyo limit himself due to an injury. Considering his previous performances in the HM from 2020 with the World Championship qualification in Barcelona (63:36min) and the World Championship participation in Gydina, this was definitely within reach. Now his personal best of 2:17:19h (2018) from Frankfurt will probably last longer. We are sure, however, that it’s only a matter of time before it falls. Christian certainly deserves it, as he himself is also a real team player, as he recently proved as a pacemaker for Valentin Pfeil at the invitation race in Dresden!
It’s nice that Christian will at least run in the S7 Half Marathon!
Yavuz Agrali
From shoe shiner to Olympic participant! A remarkable story that Yavuz Agrali would like to finish writing about the path of the S7 Marathon to Tokyo. The son of a shepherd, he had to earn extra money for his family as a shoeshine boy during his primary school years. At the age of 12, Yavuz wrote down three goals for his future: 1. become a sports teacher, 2. become a national squad athlete, 3. participate in the Olympic Games… He has completed his diploma as a teacher and coach, he has already represented Turkey’s colours at the European Championships in Berlin, and now? Tokyo, of course! With 2:10:41h he paved the way for himself in Seville 2020 and he is about to fulfil his dream. Yavuz says himself that you have to work extremely hard for your goals, but ultimately luck is also part of it! We wish him all the luck to be on the starting line in Tokyo!
Augustino Sulle
Augustino Sulle from Tanzania is the fastest registered marathon athlete at the S7 Marathon so far: 2:07:46h – this time speaks for itself!
Since the Waterfront Marathon in Toronto 2018, it stands as his personal best! At only 24 years old, Augustino is an absolute world-class marathon runner, who recently managed to beat the Kenyan elite and win the Kilimajiaro Marathon in March! At the S7 Marathon, the 2019 World Championship starter now has to provide “last minute” proof his performance for Tokyo! As in Toronto 2018, this will be a rematch of the duel between Cameron Lewis and Augustino Sulle, which the Tanzanian won back then! We are looking forward to seeing the absolute top man and Tanzanian record holder in Austria!
We welcome you all!
